Panini Grill

How do I adjust the Panini maker & grill to fit my food?

Lift the handle open until you feel it comes to a locking position. The unit will stay in this position until you close the cover. Place the food or sandwich on the grill plates and close the lid. The back hinge will adjust to the thickness of the food. NOTE: Pulling the handle forward slightly before lifting the hinge release switch will take some of the pressure off the hinge and you will be able to adjust the Panini maker & grill more easily.

How do I clean the grease?

The grease will drain into the center drain hole in the bottom grill plate and into the internal drip tray. Once you have finished cooking, turn the Control Knob to the "OFF" position and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Allow the unit to cool down for at least 30 minutes before handling. Dispose of grease from the drip tray. The drip tray can be cleaned by hand or removed and placed in the dishwasher. In between recipes, scrape excess food buildup through grease channels and into drip cups, then wipe off any residue with a paper towel before proceeding with next recipe.

Plug in the Panini maker & grill, then push the center of the Control Knob to turn "ON" the power, The center light ring will turn on and begin to pulse. For using as a contact grill, sandwich press or flat grill, turn the Control Knob to the desired temperature for cooking. Once the Panini maker & grill reaches the desired temperature, the light will remain solid.

How do I use the Panini maker & grill as a contact grill?

Rest the cover evenly on top of the food until it has reached the desired cooking temperature. The Panini maker & grill was designed with a unique handle and hinge that allows the cover to adjust to the thickness of the food. You can easily grill anything from a thinly-sliced potato to a thick sirloin steak with even results. The ribs on the grill plates combined with the grease spout at the center of the plate allow the grease to drip from the meat and drain off the plates. NOTE: When cooking more than one food item at a time, it is important that the thickness of food items is consistent so the cover will close evenly on the food.

How do I use the Panini maker & grill as an open grill?

"Open Grill" refers to using the Panini maker & grill with the cover lying flat, creating a double, flat cooking surface. In this position, the foods you are grilling will have to be turned over for cooking. To open to the flat position, make sure the upper plate and cover is level with the lower plate and base. The upper and lower plates line up to create one large cooking surface. Locate the hinge knob on the right arm. With your left hand on the handle, use your right hand to turn the knob away from you to the open/flat position. Lift up handle and before opening fully to the full flat position, check that the catch tab is engaged and holding the upper plate in place. Then, push the handle back until the cover rests flat.

How do I use the Panini maker & grill for a Panini sandwich?

A Panini is a sandwich that is pressed between two grill or griddle plates to toast the bread and warm the sandwich. We recommend using fresh baked bread to produce the best tasting Panini. The Panini maker & grill was designed with a unique handle and hinge that allows the cover to adjust to the thickness of the sandwich you are preparing, and to rest there evenly. Light pressure can be applied to the handle to press and heat the sandwich to your liking. NOTE: When cooking more than one Panini, it is important that the thickness of each sandwich is consistent so the cover will close evenly on the Paninis.

What are the different ways I can use my VillaWare™ Panini Maker & Grill?

CONTACT GRILL: Use the VillaWare™ Panini Maker & Grill as a contact grill to cook burgers, boneless pieces of meat, thin cuts of meat and vegetables. The contact grill function works best when you want to cook something in a short amount of time or when you are looking for a healthy method of grilling. When cooking on the contact grill, food will cook quickly because you are grilling both sides of the food item at the same time.

PANINI PRESS: Use the VillaWare™ Panini Maker & Grill as a Panini press to grill sandwiches, breads and quesadillas. The word "Panini " is an Italian term for grilled sandwich. Panini can include any combination of ingredients, such as vegetables, meat and cheese layered between two pieces of fresh baked bread.

OPEN GRILL IN FLAT POSITION: Use the VillaWare™ Panini Maker & Grill as an open grill to cook burgers, steak, fish, vegetables and poultry. We do not recommend cooking bone-in chicken since it does not cook evenly on an open grill,

What is the best way to heat up my Panini maker & grill?

We recommend for proper initial temperature, preheat the Panini Maker & Grill in the closed position first. When the center light ring stays solid (stops pulsing), you are now ready to use the Panini Maker & Grill in either the open or closed position.

NOTE: Once you have opened the Panini maker & grill and placed your food on the grill, the center light ring will again start to pulse, This is normal operation. The light might continue to pulse during the entire cooking time, but this is just the Panini maker & grill keeping the proper temperature for you.

What utensils should I use?

Never use metal utensils as they will scratch the nonstick plates. Instead, use only wooden or heat-proof plastic utensils. Never leave plastic utensils in contact with the hot grill plates.
