Waffle Maker

How do I clean my waffle maker?

Always unplug the waffle maker and allow it to cool before cleaning. There is no need to disassemble the waffle maker for cleaning. Never immerse the waffle maker in water or place in dishwasher. Brush away any loose crumbs from the grooves. Wipe grids clean with a paper towel, absorbing any oil or butter that might be down in the grooves of the grid. You can also wipe grids with a damp cloth. DO NOT use anything abrasive that can scratch or damage the non-stick coating. Wipe the outside of the waffle maker with a damp cloth only. DO NOT clean the outside with any abrasive scouring pad or steel wool as this will damage the finish. A little metal polish suitable for stainless steel may be used occasionally on the top housing. Should any batter become baked onto the grids, pour a little cooking oil onto the hardened batter. Let it sit for 5 minutes to soften batter, then wipe off with a paper towel or soft cloth. The drip tray can be easily removed. To clean spills, wipe with a damp cloth.

How do I get my waffles more even in thickness?

For more evenly shaped waffles, spread thick batter to the outer edge of grid using a heat proof rubber spatula or other non-metallic utensil before closing lid. Also, ensure the waffle grid is level when pouring in the batter and after the waffle maker is flipped.

How do I know when the VillaWare™ Belgian Flip Waffle Maker is ready?

When the desired baking temperature is reached, the light in the center of the Control Knob stays solid and beeps. Once heated up, cycle times will be faster.

How do I remove the waffles?

Remove waffles from the grid using non-metallic utensils. Cake-based waffles, such as chocolate waffles, are more tender than regular waffles and may require more care when removing from the waffle maker. You may want to break these waffles into halves or quarters before removing. Use a spatula to support waffles when removing from the waffle maker.

How much batter do I use?

Pour batter onto the bottom grid of the waffle maker. Ladle just enough batter to fill the lower grid so that the peak area of the grid is covered. If necessary, use a spatula to spread the batter into the corners of the grid. The drip tray will catch any overflow of batter. At this point, the light will pulse again as the baking cycle begins.

Why are my waffles sticking to the grids?

Below are some causes for waffles sticking to the grids of the waffle maker:

  1. Too much oil or a lack of oil.
  2. Batter may stick if there is no egg yolk in it. You must have egg yolk or oil for non-stick.
  3. It is always recommended to spray a non-stick product on the plates. This helps reduce the chances of sticking.

If I make more than one waffle, do I preheat again?

If additional baking is to be done, close waffle maker to retain heat and again to preheat the waffle maker to the desired temperature. Always be sure the center light ring stays solid (not pulsing) and the waffle maker again beeps. At this time, the waffle maker is ready to make the next waffle.

What if I want darker waffles?

If you want darker waffles, close the lid and continue baking until the desired color is achieved. If you continue to bake the waffle after the normal cycle is completed, for browner waffles, you will need to watch the waffle to achieve your desired darkness as the unit will no longer beep to indicate a completed cycle.

What kind of utensils can I use to remove the waffles?

Do not use metal utensils to remove your waffles. Metallic utensils can damage the non-stick surface. A non-metallic utensil is best, such as a heat-proof spatula.

When do I flip the VillaWare™ Belgian Flip Waffle Maker?

Once the batter is poured into the waffle maker, close waffle maker and immediately flip/rotate unit 180° to the left counterclockwise. Keep lid closed, if the lid is opened too soon, it will cause under-baked waffles to split making them difficult to remove. When the center light ring stays solid and the units beeps, flip/rotate waffle maker back 180° to the right clockwise. Your waffles should be done.
